BlackRock integrates Preqin benchmark data into the Aladdin investment platform for private market investors.

BlackRock Extends Aladdin Into Private Markets With Preqin Benchmarks

BlackRock has integrated Preqin Benchmarks and Indices into its Aladdin investment platform, giving institutional investors access to standardised private market performance data within their portfolio management workflows. The move represents another step towards bringing private assets onto the same technology infrastructure used for public markets.

BlackRock has expanded the capabilities of its Aladdin investment platform by integrating Preqin Benchmarks and Indices, giving institutional investors a standardised framework for measuring private market performance alongside traditional assets.

The enhancement follows BlackRock’s acquisition of private markets data specialist Preqin and reflects the firm’s broader strategy of embedding alternative assets more deeply into institutional investment workflows.

For decades, private markets have suffered from fragmented data, inconsistent reporting standards and limited benchmarking compared with listed equities and fixed income. By incorporating Preqin’s benchmark and index datasets directly into Aladdin, BlackRock is seeking to address one of the sector’s longstanding operational challenges: providing investors with a common performance measurement framework across private equity, private credit, infrastructure and real assets.

The integration enables investment teams using Aladdin to compare private market portfolios against recognised industry benchmarks within the same risk management and portfolio construction environment used for public market investments. That has the potential to simplify investment oversight for pension funds, insurers, sovereign wealth funds and other institutional allocators managing increasingly diversified portfolios.

The announcement also illustrates how competition in investment technology is shifting beyond portfolio analytics towards ownership of proprietary data. As institutional allocations to private markets continue to rise, demand has grown for higher-quality valuation, benchmarking and performance information that supports governance, asset allocation and manager selection.

For BlackRock, the integration strengthens Aladdin’s position as an operating system for institutional investing rather than simply a risk management platform. It also reinforces the strategic rationale behind the firm’s acquisition of Preqin, positioning data as core investment infrastructure rather than a standalone information service.

The broader significance extends beyond BlackRock. As private markets mature, investors increasingly expect the same levels of transparency, comparability and analytical rigour that have long existed in public markets. Standardised benchmarks are likely to become an essential component of that evolution, supporting more informed allocation decisions and helping private assets integrate more seamlessly into institutional portfolios.
