Amundi completes €620m ICG stake as private markets move deeper into wealth
Amundi has completed its €620 million investment in ICG, combining a minority stake in the private-markets manager with a 10-year agreement to distribute its strategies through the global wealth channel.
Amundi has acquired a 9.9% economic interest in Intermediate Capital Group (ICG), completing a strategic partnership that is designed to expand access to private-market strategies among wealth and retirement investors.
The Paris based asset manager said the investment, worth approximately €620 million, follows the strategic and equity partnership announced by the two firms in November 2025.
Under the agreement, Amundi will act as ICG’s exclusive global distributor in the wealth channel for its evergreen and certain other products for 10 years. ICG will in turn act as Amundi’s exclusive provider for those products to Amundi’s distribution business.
The partnership gives Amundi greater access to ICG’s private markets capabilities while providing ICG with a significantly broader distribution platform among wealth investors.
The deal comes as asset managers increasingly seek ways to bring private equity, private credit and other alternative strategies into wealth portfolios. ICG has also recently completed fundraising for its ninth European Corporate fund, securing €12 billion, 50% more than its predecessor.
For Amundi, the transaction extends its private-markets capabilities beyond traditional distribution. For ICG, the relationship provides access to a global wealth platform without requiring the private-markets manager to build an equivalent distribution infrastructure itself.
The structure also illustrates how the traditional boundaries between asset management and private markets are changing. Rather than simply distributing third-party funds, large asset managers are increasingly forming strategic relationships with alternative investment specialists that combine ownership, product access and distribution.
The wealth channel is becoming an important part of that convergence. Evergreen structures, in particular, are designed to provide more flexible access to private markets than traditional closed-end funds, although they retain different liquidity and valuation characteristics from conventional daily-dealing funds.
For investors, the significance of the Amundi-ICG relationship will therefore extend beyond the €620 million investment itself. It represents a broader attempt to connect institutional private-market investment capabilities with the distribution infrastructure serving wealth and retirement capital.
