BlackRock Goes Deeper into Private Markets
BlackRock has deepened its push into private markets with the launch of a new multi-alternatives separately managed account (SMA), developed in partnership with Partners Group, marking a significant step in the evolution of wealth platform distribution.
The solution, described as a first-of-its-kind offering, packages private equity, private credit and real assets into a single, outcome-oriented portfolio accessible via a unified account structure. Delivered through one subscription document, the SMA is designed to reduce operational friction for financial advisers while enabling more scalable allocations to private markets.
The platform introduces three goal-based strategies, income, balanced and growth underpinned by seven evergreen funds managed across BlackRock, Partners Group and HPS Investment Partners. By consolidating multiple private market exposures into a single vehicle, the firms aim to shift advisers away from product selection toward holistic portfolio construction.
The launch reflects a structural imbalance in wealth portfolios. Despite growing demand for diversification, private markets remain underrepresented, in part due to complexity, limited access and scalability challenges. BlackRock estimates advisers currently allocate only modest portions of client portfolios to alternatives, even as companies stay private longer and public markets become increasingly concentrated.
For asset managers, the initiative underscores intensifying competition to capture flows from high-net-worth investors, a segment that now controls a rising share of global financial assets. It also signals a broader convergence between institutional and retail investment capabilities, as firms seek to embed private assets into mainstream portfolio construction.
As private markets continue to expand, solutions that simplify access while maintaining institutional-grade exposure are likely to play a central role in reshaping wealth management distribution.
